Photo Therapy

WITH THE GARDEN LOOKING more than a little "blah" right now, I thought I'd share some photos from my archives--photos of happier times, when the weather was hospitable and pleasant. Maybe these will jar your memory to that time, many months ago. I especially dedicate this post to all of you who remain strangled by winter's icy grip.

These photos are all from my "Drive-By (Photo) Shooting" file. They were taken around town during previous summers.

Recently, I bought a large seed packet of Red Flax because of what I saw in this front garden last summer.

This flower is Viscaria. Very similar to Red Flax.

Dogwood

Voluptuous Hydrangea

Roadside Chicory Blossom of purest blue

Armeria drinking up the sunshine

Double File Viburnum

Echinaceas in the hell strip

A genius juxtaposition: Japanese Blood Grass and blooming Sedum

A front bed of Japanese Anemone blossoms

Hardy Fuchsias ... oh I miss those sweet blossoms.

A tad bit blurry, Mimosa Tree (Albizia julibrissin) in its floral prime

How come my Hollyhocks never look like this?
Finally a bit of humor:

Maybe the most tasteful rendition of pink flamingos I've seen.
And of course, there's always got to be one rogue.

No taste here at all.
Hang in there. Spring is coming!

  2. Oh Gosh, I need to shield my eyes from all that color!!!!!! Ha ha! LOVE the red flax, can't seem to get it started in my garden. Blue, yes, red, no. We have a dogwood, but it's white. It was free so I won't complain, too much. Have the double file viburnum. Love it. Have of course echinaceas and I planted Japanese Anemones in my daughter's garden which seem to be doing much better than mine. I have a feeling anemones and chickens DO NOT mix well.
    Gorgeous pics, Grace. Thanks.

  4. I have to say, I rather like the flamingos too - and they go well with your generally pink theme. I hope you get some warm weather for gardening soon!

  8. Anything involving a toilet is just vulgar and crass. I have scarlet flax seedlings under grow lights right now. They were super easy to grow. I love that hydrangea. I wish I had one that looked like that.

  9. I'm seeing a wee bit of a theme here. Pink, pink, and more pink. :) Speaking of which, I thought you hated blue flowers.
Every year I say I'm gonna throw out some flax seeds and every year I fail. I want blue and red. They are so dang pretty. Another seed that I used to buy ALL the time when I was a youngin' in the gardening department, was...well crap, there it goes again. Why does that happen every time I go to leave a comment here?! I'll think of it at dinner again.
My sister has had a dogwood tree in both of her homes. I love them. I have one in a pot, but it hasn't ever bloomed. Not that I blame it.
Speaking of my sister, their new(er) house has a giant clump of blood grass and I'm stealin' a piece this year. I think I'll try it in the parking strip. Sink or swim, right?

That red flax is really pretty, I've only seen blue. The sun is out today and the garden is really starting to wake up!
